San Carlos is also known as Ciudad
Quesada, and you will find both names are commonly used. San Carlos is a
large city by Costa Rican standards, with a population of more than 120,000.
Within the city of Ciudad Quesada, you will find plenty of shopping and stores
for necessities, and out in the coutryside surrounding San Carlos you will
find the enchantment of the Costa Rican rainforests.
Cabinas, hotels and canopy tours are some of the popular vacation highlights
in this region. Thermal mineral waters and hot springs in the San Carlos
Valley area bring plenty of well seasoned travelers looking for relaxation
and health spas.
The small town of La Fortuna is in this county, famous for its many hotels
with views of the Arenal Volcano. The hike to the awesome Fortuna waterfall
is a bit strenuous, but highly recommended.
