Detailed Road Map of Upala County Costa Rica
Upala County is the gateway to Laguna Las Camelias Wildlife Refuge and
the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge in the far northern region of Costa Rica.
Rustic guest houses, cabinas and B&B lodging are available in this remote
region. It is a long drive, but well worth the reward when you find the peace
and solitude of being away from the more popular tourist destinations of
the Arenal region.
The western districts of Dos Rios, Aguas Claras, and Bijagua are bordered
by the Continental Divide running through the Guanacaste Mountain Range,
across the Santa Maria, Rincon de la Vieja and Miravalles Volcanic chain.
The northern portion of Upala shares a border with Nicaragua and the
Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge.
The city of Upala is situated on the banks of the Zapote River, not far from
the entrance to Tenorio Volcano National Park. While you are in the area,
visit the sky-blue colored Rio Celeste, and enjoy thermal mineral baths and
hot springs spas.
