Paraiso
Canton is home to much of the Rio Macho Forest Reserve, parts of
Tapanti
National Park, and the beautiful Orosi River Valley.
The Cachi Dam in the Orosi Valley is one of Costa Rica's largest
hydrelectric generating plants. Cachi's
arch dam is in the Ujarras Valley, and uses water from the Rio Macho
and the Reventazon rivers.
The Paraiso region is famous for kayaking and whitewater rafting tours,
with
rivers in the area rated from class I to VI rapids in degree of
difficulty of whitewater rafting. Other vacation activities include
hiking, birdwatching
and nature guides. Many tourists enjoy the Ujarras Ruins, site of a
pre-Columbian
archaeological find.
Hotels and lodging in the Paraiso region varies from backpacking and
camping, rustic cabins, or luxury mountain lodges.
