The city of Santa Cruz is just 30 minutes from the Liberia airport.
Many
tourists pass through Santa Cruz on their way to the famous beach areas
of
Guanacaste: Tamarindo and Playa Grande offer world class surfing. North
of
the Tamarindo area is Potrero Bay, with excellent surfing, fishing and
scuba
diving from Playas Conchal, Brasilito and Potrero.
The rural county roads of Santa Cruz wander along the Guanacaste Coast.
Many
surfers rent a car and travel from beach to beach along this coast,
testing
the waves and enjoying these secluded and undeveloped beach areas:
Avellanas
and Negra, Junquillal Lagarto and Manzanillo, Marbella Azul and San
Juanillo.
Many tourists visit the small town of Guatil, just outside of Santa
Cruz,
which is famous for its artisans and pottery made in the style of the
native
Chorotega Indians of Guanacaste.
