The county of Tilaran encompasses the majority of the famous Lake
Arenal,
a man-made lake and hydroelectric dam supplying electricity to the
northern
part of Costa Rica.
Tourist activities in
the Tilaran area include hiking with naturalist guides, windsurfing and
kayaking,
boating and swimming. Vacationers will find many hotels, bed and
breakfasts
and guest houses tucked away inthe hills overlooking this beautiful
Lake
Arenal.
This area is continguous with the Monteverde Cloud Forest preserve, and
many
day trips from Monteverde to Lake Arenal are horseback riding and
hiking
through rainforests and cloudforest of Costa Rica.
